Where we come from
The 20th century is still in its infancy when Karl Langkammerer takes over the “Georg Robel File Factory” in Munich and starts to manufacture hand-operated track construction machines.
His success encourages him in his vision for track construction: Over the decades, “to robel” becomes synonymous with the secure screw connection between track and sleeper.
The economic boom of the 1950s brings about a considerable change in size: Driven by the idea to optimise work on the track, ROBEL builds track vehicles, followed by rail loading trains a bit later and sets initial steps beyond the country borders.
In 1989 the company premises in Munich literally reaches its limits - ROBEL starts to gradually move all its company divisions to the railway town of Freilassing.

Karl Langkammerer takes over the company. The “Track Construction Machine Company Georg Robel & Co” produces hand-operated track construction machines.
An idea gains traction.
Successes from initial machine exhibitions boost production. The company employs 300 staff.
Onwards and upwards.
At the exhibition “Rail and Road” Georg Robel & Co introduces the first track-bound vehicle as well as stationary machines.
ROBEL’s first rail loading train is commissioned at Deutsche Bahn.

With the move of administration and sales from Munich to Freilassing ROBEL finds a new home - but its vision and roots remain unchanged.
The 12.70 and 12.72 Rail Band Saws are cutting rails with low emissions, fast and without flying sparks. The alternative to traditional cut-off grinding.
Burst of growth.
ROBEL expands its assembly and metalworking shop as well as warehousing facilities; it also builds a training facility. 330 staff manufacture around 100 prototypes of small and large machines and supply these all over the world.
Workshop on Wheels.
Safe work at open adjacent line in the Mobile Maintenance Unit 69.50: ROBEL delivers seven units to Austrian Österreichische Bundesbahnen and another one to Swiss BLS.
At the iaf in Münster ROBEL presents the new Maintenance Vehicle for Catenary Installations (IFO) to the international public.

After Munich and Nuremberg, the Cologne transport association Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe AG is another local transport company that decides to go for a modern work and transport system from ROBEL.

Japanese JR East puts the Rail Exchange System REX-S-1200 into operation at high-speed Shinkansen for the first time. Market launch of the Precision Power Wrench 30.73 as show highlight of the InnoTrans in Berlin: Concentrated wrenching performance meets precise documentation.
Grinding made easy.
At the iaf trade show in Munster ROBEL presents the new high frequency grinding machines 13.49 and 13.63 for rail head and switch with patent hybrid drive solution.

ROBEL receives environment certification ISO 14001 and scores Silver Level in EcoVadis CSR Rating.
