Use the eight vehicles to build up to 16 different train combinations all designed for mixed mode pursuant to German EBON/A and BOStrab ordinances and for covering all transport tasks of urban maintenance operations.

Compared to previous methods, the system will transport greater loads in less time:

  • The general-purpose trailers carry sleepers and construction materials to platforms all of types - including low loading ones - occurring in the network.
  • Heavy components such as ticket vending machines, groups of seats or transformers are taken straight to the destination platform.
  • Cable reels, escalators, control cabinets, cleaning equipment, construction machinery
  • Rails up to 18 metres long
  • As opposed to just side tipping, up to 17 t of ballast can now also be dumped and spread centrally.

In a nutshell, you will need fewer trips for more material.

What is special about maintaining railway systems in public road traffic?

Bei einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit des Systems von 60 km/h in Eigenfahrt ist gute Sicht eine essentielle Voraussetzung für schnelle Brems-Reaktion. Die rundum großen Glasflächen und der schwenkbare Fahrersitz des GKW ermöglichen dem Bediener freien Blick auf Bahnsteigkante, Zebrastreifen, Signale sowie seitlich stehende Passanten und KFZ. Ist der GKW als Einzelfahrzeug im Einsatz, bietet die hintere Kabine volle Sicht auf das Baustellengeschehen.

Why does urban infrastructural work have to be completed faster?

Infrastructure operators are challenged by high-capacity utilisation of light rail traffic during the week and sometimes all-night traffic services at weekends as well as the ensuing high load on the rail networks: Labour time windows to address ever-growing maintenance needs are decreasing.

Up to 90 per cent of urban maintenance work is done during shutdown periods at night, leaving an average of two to four hours a day.

Thus, infrastructural work has to become faster and more organised in order to ensure a reliable availability of highly used lines. Since there is precious little time for ad-hoc jobs to mend broken rails or catenaries, trouble-free operation mainly relies on ongoing maintenace and on-time fault mending.
